Have you got yourself a Wellness Day?

Every now and then, I allow myself a day I call a “Wellness Day.” It’s a day where I keep my schedule completely free — no client meetings, no projects, no deadlines. Instead, I move through the day slowly, savoring every moment.

Because if we don’t listen to our bodies and take a Wellness Day, we might end up needing a Sick Day. This can’t be truer for mothers. As a mom of three kids at very different ages and hence, with different needs, I always choose the first option. And even when I do build the Healthy Mind Platter in my day, my body and my mind want a good rest sometimes.

Yesterday was one of those days. I’d been working with clients, transforming their careers and lives, taking care of my two-year-old child when he got sick and couldn’t go to school, and balancing everything else. Then I knew it was time for a Wellness Day. I did yoga, enjoyed a simple breakfast of pâté and bread, unpacked groceries at my own pace, and finally made time for a creative activity I hadn’t done in a while: painting.

After searching for some inspiration and ideas, I painted a picture of my family in front of our home, joined by a tiny friend — a little squirrel. Thankfully, my little one was sleeping soundly for mommy to finish coloring and giving the work a few more touches. Then, I placed it in a frame that I’d collected from a recent fair want longed to use. The moment the painting was well settled in its home, I felt so fulfilled and happy!

It was quite late by then when I started to cook dinner. But a late dinner once in a while doesn’t make us starving, does it?

I well knew that my brain must have had some new “creative maps,” ready to help me come up with unique solutions to future challenges. More importantly, it’s rested and recharged to help me pursue my dreams, care for my loved ones, and serve my clients with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

Have you allowed yourself a Wellness Day yet? If not, give it a try. Some of the women / mothers I work with even take a Wellness Week to cure their poor sleep due to constant demands from work and life.

Take a pause, enjoy this date with yourself, pick up a creative outlet you love, and return to life and work with more energy and positivity.
